Are You Inadvertently Sabotaging Your Diet?

Everybody knows that the best foods we can take in are whole grains, lean meats and healthy fats. These would be the foods that give people protein and also energy. They keep the body nutritionally balanced with minimal calories while we work hard to reduce our fat at the gym. Are you aware, however, that a number of the foods you've been thinking are very good for your diet program could actually be making you retain weight? They could even be trying to keep you from slimming down altogether! Here are a few of the foods that you could be eating which are hurting your efforts to lose weight.

Sports Drinks are not serving you at all. You have most likely been told that the sports drink is the proper way to replenish your body's electrolyte levels after a workout. Most doctors will let you know, though, that if your training doesn't go over ninety minutes then you ought to be fine just by drinking water. Sports drinks are full of sugar and calories and a massive amount of other things you don't need including artificial flavors and colors which defeat any attempts at eating only natural products. Try drinking some chocolate milk as an alternative. The sugar within the chocolate can help your muscles start to mend and the calcium in milk keeps your bones strong.

Protein Shakes are not a person's friend. So many people assume that consuming a protein shake is a good way to halt cravings when it isn't meal time. When you're eating an normally healthy diet, however, a protein shake merely sends you into protein overdose. Converse to typical belief, protein isn't stored as muscle fiber, it is stored as fat. This means that when you have taken in an excessive amount of protein during the day your body stores what it doesn't need in your fat, which won't help you lose weight or inches at all.

Pre-packaged deli meat is not as good for you as you might think. You likely believe that a sandwich that is made out of pre-packaged lean deli meat and whole grain bread is a pretty good lunch. The truth is that pre-packaged deli meat is crammed full of preservatives and about a third of your recommended daily sodium intake. This is going to be particularly unsafe if you are at risk of contracting heart disease. Instead of picking deli meat, select home prepared chicken or other poultry or fresh deli meat that you can get sliced at the deli counter. Yes you are going to pay more money for these selections but you will be healthier if you choose them.

There are a wide range of things that we think will help us shed weight like eating a whole wheat bagel each morning but the truth is that eating a bowl of oatmeal sprinkled with cinnamon is a lot better for our health and waist lines. Ask a medical expert which things are the best to eat and then follow the directions you are given. If you are cautious about what exactly you take in and treat your body well, losing weight should not be that big of an issue for you!
