The Top Two Considerations To Looking And Feeling Good Involves Diet And Exercise

By Robin Barlow

Looking great and feeling great requires a healthy diet and regular exercise. There's no getting around it. If you workout to build muscle or lose weight you have to balance those workouts out with the proper foods to get the desired results.

Some people think that proper nutrition is all about eating endless amounts of vegetables. That's not true. Good nutrition requires a balance between several food groups to ensure the body gets what it needs.

Athletes know that if you workout to gain muscle, you will need at least 40 calories per kg of body weight daily. These extra calories are a must because they give your body the energy it needs during intense workouts.

Those extra calories shouldn't be spent on junk food, however. Make the most of your workout and spend the extra calories on sensible, healthful food.

The right nutrition doesn't come by accident. To be your healthiest, consult a food pyramid chart or talk to a nutritionist about what foods are the best for your needs. It's important to include the right amount of proteins since they are the key to building muscle. Protein helps repair and build muscle, so to be strong, you need to include the right kinds and amounts in your diet.

Make sure you include carbohydrates and fates in limited quantities. Both are necessary to have energy to workout. Building muscle requires at least 50% of the calories from carbohydrates to produce glycogen, which is fuel for energy expenditure. Vitamins and minerals are what your body needs to rebuild tissue, core strength and stamina. They are found in fresh fruits and vegetables.

Strong bones and healthy blood production requires a diet rich in calcium, zinc and iron. The healthy diet plan should include the right nutrition to build strong muscles.

You may want to consider adding protein supplement shakes to your diet as a back up. Protein shakes have plenty of vitamins and minerals your body needs after a workout and can be used as a meal replacement.
