Dietary Fat - The Bodybuilder's Friend

By Edward French

According to conventional wisdom, dietary fat has long been the enemy of the serious body builder. But that perception is changing as breaking research is finding that the right amount of dietary fat is more important that we realized. Our daily diet should include a certain amount dietary fats. The modern world of bodybuilding now finds itself coming to terms with a new set of dietary standards. It really is a matter of thinking about your bodybuilding goals and then considering how you can use this information to get you where you want to be.

There are good and bad fats, and most of us have a pretty good handle on how to tell the difference. Taken on the whole, the diets of everyone from fitness enthusiast to the sedentary should include more unsaturated than saturated fat. Some of our nutritional needs like Omega 3 and Omega 6 essential fatty acids cannot be fulfilled by the body's internal mechanisms. The family of Omega acids are summarily referred to as EFA's or Essential Fatty Acids. Salmon and other wild-caught fish such as tuna are an abundant source of polyunsaturated fats. Flax seeds, walnuts, and specific kinds of meat products can also be an abundant source of essential fatty acids. Both the heart and brain need the appropriate amount of Omega 3 essential fatty acids to remain healthy.

All too often people new to the sport of body building still structure their diets according to the more conventional approach to managing dietary fat. A frequently made mistake is to try to remove as much fat as possible from your diet. This is the wrong approach, but they believe that they can achieve better muscle development by removing fat from their diet. Making progress as a body builder can be impeded if you don't take time to educate yourself. The more contemporary approach that is actually driven by science is to make sure you're taking in the right amounts of the right fats every day. First and foremost, that is the most important thing to remember when talking about how to drive muscle development and maintain overall health.

Someone wanting to become a successful body builder should keep in mind the following. Refine your workouts to target muscle growth and maximize fat burning. If your mind and body are functioning at their best that will help you keep a winning mindset. Steroidal hormones are known to be partially comprised of fatty elements so you must have fats in your diet in order for your body to effectively utilize them. There isn't a part of the body that doesn't make use of fatty lipids or the cholesterol molecule. Not only would it be counterproductive to remove all fats from your diet, but trying to do so can result in negative consequences. Undertaking an excessive fitness regiment without the proper amount of dietary fat will ultimately prove to be folly.

Bodybuilders and couch potatoes alike all need the correct ratio of healthy fats in their diets. Unfortunately, much of the contemporary western diet is largely comprised of processed foods containing saturated fats. Bodybuilders must be especially diligent about their diet because of the intensity of their training routines. Choosing to eat the healthier fats in the proper ratios is the best course of action. Increased muscle development and desirable fat loss will come when you implement these findings in your diet.
