A Cup Of Espresso: The Best Way To Kickstart Your Day

By Seung Jo

In the past years, it has been observed that despite the variety of ways available to prepare coffee, many still prefer and continue to love coffee brews produced by a coffee maker such as the maker such as a Saeco espresso machine. Espresso is also considered as the most loved coffee brew in the market which makes us wonder as to why this is so.

Espresso is basically a concentrated coffee drink made by forcing a small amount of nearly boiling water under pressure through finely ground coffee. Many regard the espresso as the most romantic kind of coffee which originally came from Milan, Italy in the 19th century. Italian coffee lover Luigi Bezerra is credited to have started this espresso revolution in 1903. As history suggests, Bezerra came up with the method of pressurizing the coffee beans and grounds while looking for a faster way to brew the coffee he loved which paved the way to the creation of the espresso brew and eventually the invention of the coffee maker.

Espresso makers such as a Saeco espresso machine are commonly used today to prepare a cup of espresso. But what are the defining characteristics of a cup of espresso? These are espresso's thickness and the crema. Unlike other coffee brewing methods, espresso often has a thicker consistency. Usually, it is almost three to four times the consistency of a regular black coffee. On the other hand, the crema is the reddish-brown substance that floats on top of the espresso. With its attached foamy substance, the crema is actually the main part of espresso that people love.

But as was asked earlier, why do many people prefer espresso over other coffee forms, despite that espresso is also the base for other drinks? Many reasons are cited for people's love for this cup of coffee. Among these are the water content, the caffeine content, and the flavor. A typical coffee contains too much water while an espresso is actually about a 1-ounce size drink and is called an espresso shot. Next is the caffeine content. Despite its small size, an espresso shot often has more caffeine per unit volume than most beverages. Finally is the flavor which is the primary reason cited to the popularity of espresso. It is known that a cup of espresso have more of a flavor than a regular coffee cup.

As already mentioned earlier, espresso is basically used as a based for other coffee drinks. The use of espresso makers like the Saeco espresso machine will help in creating other coffee mixes which can also be enjoyed. The Americano, the latte, and the cappuccino are the three most popular coffee mixes which use espresso as base. A coffee variation that combines equal parts of hot water and espresso is known as the Americano mix. For latte on the other hand, the combination is consist of espresso and twice as much steamed milk. Finally, we have the cappuccino which alternatively uses equal parts of espresso, steamed milk, and milk foam. Cafe con panna, cafe macchiato, cafe mocha, cafe creme, cafe Romano, and ristretto are other espresso mixes also enjoyed by many.

A cup of espresso is indeed a great way to start one's day. Purchasing one from a coffee shop or preparing a shot in the comforts of your home using machines such as a Saeco espresso machine, downing a cup of espresso is a practice many coffee lovers love.
